New Paltz Chalk Festival at the Water Street Market

Thirteen professional chalk artists and 12 local artists chalk artists turned the upper parking lot of the Water Street Market into an art gallery.
Chalk artists spent a rainy Saturday carefully blocking out designs in a parking spot sized area and then rubbing enough chalk and pastels into the pavement to make blacktop look like porcelain skin or a delicate photograph.

The chalk art is amazing to see and admirable in that so much time, talent, energy goes into ephemeral pieces.
